Exeter Cathedral is an imposing structure of beauty and antiquity in the heart of the city, and with its stunning architecture inside and out, there is something new to discover with each visit.  In the beautiful surroundings of the Cathedral Close, you will find historic pubs and restaurants serving delicious local food and drink, or for an excellent mix of restaurants serving cuisine to suit all tastes, head for Exeter’s side streets such as the cobbled Gandy Street, or the picturesque Historic Quayside.  With food halls serving the best and freshest of seasonal local produce, weekly farmers markets and an exciting annual food festival, Exeter is an ideal destination for food and drink lovers! Exeter's Underground Passages re-opened in September 2007 with a brand new visitor centre packed with interactive exhibits and improved interpretation. Dating from the 14th century, these medieval passages under Exeter High Street are a unique ancient monument: no similar system of passages can be explored by the public elsewhere in Britain. They were built to house the pipes that brought fresh water to the city. Visitors to the Underground Interpretation Centre pass through an exhibition and video presentation before their guided tour of the exciting passages themselves.

For those who fancy shopping as well as sightseeing, Exeter has plenty to offer with over 350 independent shops adding to the major High Street names, many of which are housed in historic buildings, and with two undercover shopping areas in the city centre – the Guildhall and Harlequins – visitors can continue to shop whatever the weather!  Autumn 2007 saw the opening of the award-winning Princesshay development, a pedestrianised open space with 60 new and exciting retailers, cafes and restaurants.

Exeter is easy to reach with great transport links by road, via the M5, or Air with Exeter Airport only minutes away from the city centre. There are also regular train and bus services to the city and you can plan you journey via the public transport link on the main menu.
